Hiring people in the Hull area – Native British English Speakers for Conversation Recording Project
Summary
Invitation to people in the Hull area to Participate in a Collaborative Conversation Recording Project for Native British English Speakers Easy and interesting job. It is not necessary to record all topics in one sitting.
This is a totally natural conversation to help us gather conversational data for linguistic research, language development, and educational projects, we are looking for native British English speakers. In this position, two native speakers’ natural conversations on particular subjects are recorded. The app (Funcrowd) will be used for recording.
What You’ll Do: 1. Working in Pairs:
This project requires two people to work together. You and your partner will have free conversations on the given topics. 2.
**Topic Duration: Each topic should be discussed for 20 minutes.
Conversation Requirements
Total Time: The total task will take 2.5 hours, covering various (7) topics.
Natural Flow: Make sure the conversation flows naturally without long pauses.
Recording Directions
Main Speaker. Identify the main speaker in the conversation. Stay on the Page. Don’t lock your screen or leave the app during the recording, or it will stop automatically. Avoid Hands-Free: Don’t use the speakerphone, and make sure both participants are in different rooms.
Upload the Data. After each session, both people must upload the recording. If it fails, you can retry using the “one-click upload.
Recording Environment
Quiet environment – Microphone Position. Hold the phone like you’re making a call, with the microphone aimed at your mouth.
Quiet Space – Record in a quiet place to ensure the audio is clear.
Consistency – Do all the recordings in the same place and don’t switch participants.
Content Requirements
Start with a Phrase
Begin each recording by saying “magic data sound recording.”
Natural Conversation – Keep the conversation flowing naturally, avoiding long pauses. Make sure no silent section lasts more than two minutes.
Session Length – Each conversation should be at least 21-22 minutes long, aiming for 2.5 hours of recording in total.
No Sensitive Topics – Don’t discuss politics, religion, or other sensitive issues during the recording.
Topics to Discuss
Talk about everyday topics such as finance, education, health, entertainment, current events, technology, art, relationships, and personal experiences.

Information for Nerds – ‘What if I run out of things to say’
Well you won’t be on your own. Eric will have prepared some prompts and background information if things dry up. This isn’t a test !
Fortunately, this rarely happens when a little preparation is involved.
Before the session, spend a few minutes thinking about the topic and making a few simple notes. You do not need a full script. In fact, reading from a script is usually less useful than speaking naturally. A handful of bullet points, personal experiences, opinions, examples, or stories can be enough to keep a conversation moving comfortably.
If you find yourself drawing a blank, try expanding on a point you have already mentioned. Explain why you think something, describe how you first became interested in the topic, compare different viewpoints, or discuss how your opinions have changed over time. Real-life examples are often far more valuable than polished answers.
It can also help to think of conversations as a series of connected branches. One idea naturally leads to another. A discussion about technology might lead to work, education, hobbies, privacy concerns, favourite gadgets, or future trends.
Most importantly, do not worry about being an expert. These projects are generally looking for natural, authentic conversation rather than perfect knowledge. Curiosity, personal experience, and a willingness to explore a topic are often more valuable than having all the answers.
A relaxed participant who speaks naturally is usually far more useful than someone trying to sound like a professional presenter. For this project people in the Hull area need to be native to the Uk.
