Feedback Loops can be a significant matter for someone who is trying to improve their renditions. There again if you believe that everything you do is perfect – you should pay even closer attention!

I have come round full circle to setting up another voice-over website (vo.ericfisher.io). Unfortunately I had lost control of my previous domain, amid infuriating wrangles with a creepy registrar – lessons have been learnt.
Feedback Loops…
There is a guy on YouTube, Bill Dewees who swears by Fiverr. He does have a very useful suggestion. This being to do and re-do your demos and that is fair comment. As someone gets better at listening actively and fixing technical issues there is a learning curve. The mistakes gradually get subtler and after a few months when you come back to old demos you may find yourself shaking your head that you missed so many now obvious bloopers.
Pulling it all together a lot water has passed with my voice-over work and I realise that from all the jobs and demos there are hundreds of audios to draw upon. I hadn’t even registered it, just kept chasing the next contract. Setting up the new website has helped me stand back and take stock.
I am intentionally keeping it slick and simple, but I do still like to write a bit, so I’ll be doing the odd post. If someone uses AI all the time, as a writer you miss out on all the reflection which can be very healing and inspirational.
I have been dabbling in web3 but it is not well established currently so I went with web2 which has a better SEO potential. I might like to add some crypto options further down the line. Not just in payment, but in the burgeoning web3 community that is building behind the scenes.
I used Unstoppable with my setup because they are cutting edge when it comes to domains and they do web2 also. Pointing to Hostinger for hosting worked fine, only took me a few minutes to organise. Bit of confusion as Hostinger switched from temp to my domain on Unstoppable, but all ended well. The robot will do everything on there for you, on its own platform.

…Feedback loops really are a thing, ignore them at your peril. You could just be absentmindedly just pushing forward or you could be a Narcissist choosing not to look back, I mean how could you ever be wrong – impossible. Some people try to blank out their mistakes and that is part of the problem – take a breath you are a human not a robot. Thinking like that can make it harder for them to move past these hurdles…
Not all loops are created equal.
Down the Rabbit Hole with Endless 1,1,1
The whole point of a feedback loop is that something changes. We try an approach, observe the result, adjust, and try again. The loop itself is not the goal. Improvement is the goal.
Nature is full of useful loops. The seasons cycle endlessly, yet each spring brings new growth. Water evaporates, forms clouds and falls again as rain. Even our own bodies rely on countless feedback systems regulating temperature, breathing and balance. The repetition serves a purpose.
Human learning often works in a similar way. A voice-over artist records a demo, listens back critically, identifies weaknesses and re-records it. A musician practices a difficult passage, makes adjustments and gradually improves. An athlete reviews performance, modifies technique and tries again. The loop remains, but the outcome evolves.
The danger comes when repetition becomes disconnected from reflection.
This is where we enter the strange territory of endless 1,1,1.
Imagine a person making the same mistake repeatedly while expecting a different result. The loop still exists, but no information is being absorbed. The process becomes circular rather than progressive. There is movement but no journey. Effort is expended, yet nothing fundamentally changes.
Anyone who has spent time online has probably witnessed this phenomenon. Entire discussions can become endless 1,1,1 loops. The same arguments are repeated, the same assumptions are made and the same conclusions are reached. Nobody learns anything because nobody pauses long enough to examine the feedback.
Bad feedback loops – running yet standing still
Creative work is not immune either. A voice actor may continue using the same delivery style because it feels comfortable. A writer may repeat the same habits on every page. A business owner may cling to an outdated strategy despite clear evidence that it is no longer working. The loop continues indefinitely.
The difference between a productive feedback loop and endless 1,1,1 is surprisingly simple: awareness.
The moment we stop merely repeating and start observing, the loop changes character. We notice what worked, what failed and what might be worth trying next. Suddenly the sequence becomes 1, 2, 3 rather than 1, 1, 1. Progress appears.
Perhaps that is the real lesson hidden inside every rabbit hole. Repetition itself is neither good nor bad. The question is whether the loop is teaching us something. If it is, we are growing. If it is not, we may simply be running in circles while convincing ourselves we are moving forward.
